The Santa Chupitos cocktail emporium, located on a quiet cobbled street in the Ropewalks district, is the perfect venue for a sophisticated evening out in Liverpool. Venture into the inconspicuous building and you’ll find a Wonka-esque wonderland of imaginative cocktails. While the decor is deliberately scruffy – graffitied skulls daubed on the walls, a scattering of wooden stools ranged along the weatherbeaten bar – Santa Chupitos doesn’t claim to be a swank cocktail lounge; you could say it’s more of an urban den or bohemian bolt-hole, an emporium staffed by skilled bartenders with a genuine passion for mixology. There are a few different cocktail menus to choose from, including a seasonal menu making use of the freshest ingredients. Choose from intoxicating inventions like When Lola Met Brando or Jamaican Me Stormy. While the former is a potent fusion of amaretto, Jack Daniels and Cherry Coke, the latter combines gold rum, fresh lime and Old Jamaica ginger beer. Perhaps the most famous beverage served is the $5 shake. Containing vodka, chambord, blueberries and ice cream, the cocktail is presented in a fat glass milk bottle. If you enjoy creamy cocktails, this one will go down a treat. Comprising two cocktail bars and a basement stocked with enough tequila to intoxicate a small country, Santa Chupitos is the place to laugh, drink and be merry.
